Been Reading and reading and reading-MMM
My Grandpa herded sheep for the Church Coop when he was a young man. I remember because when my mother got the whooping cough,
he had it too. I was sitting up with her while she nursed my brother and imagined the Whooping Cough to be a Great Bird,
cousin to the Great Egress, and it had caught my Grandpa once.
ZCMI used to have a big health food section, it was a huge system, the church food production for the poor and affiliated,
including the food for the Indians in the South of the State.
As of 1980 we called our public anti-MX speaking tour Cowboys
and Indians, though in my more formal writing I say the Native
or Indigenous People and now First people.
I want to say something about the Indians in Utah. There are three groups, by Federal Designation, and you will find many more peoples if you go back into the old records. Pi means people, pah as well, probably. A second word indicates where
they lived ede--the suffix for water, was added to the Pi
to make a name for the water people. The Indians up to the
Uto Aztecan-Ute border, Azlan on old maps.
President Hinkley's Ancestors and mine moved over the border hoping to form a society called Deseret, after the Honey bee
where they would be comfortable and safe. Reality was a deep
shock.
I doubt that Mountain Meadow was ever owned by anyone but the
Church, except by temporary seizure during a time of heavy,
obscene, cruel, unsupportable oppression by the Feds, when
it was possibly given to a Gentile to manage--Gentiles associated with the Feds might not have payed much, since the
Government held almost all Church property in escheatment.
So if anyone 'owned' Coop land, it was simply by occupation. The Bear River Massacre, 2/3 the size of the smaller Fancher train, was killed by California Militia Men.
We have been called many things, but paranoid is not, until
now, one of them. If the Fanchers had been more willing to
smoke the peace pipe, to humble themselves before the indigenous and cocky Indians, as we had to do, spoke of might have survived. An Indian I used to know spoke of Genocide and Natural Catastrophy--Sometimes the Earth opens up and eats
alot of people.
Time is slowly consuming our ancestors, all of them, Fancher and Lee, Jesus and Pilate. History is for our teaching and learning, we study how to avert it's repetition. It isn't a PR
game.
We are dealing with three vastly different cultures, with
different funerary customs. Short of the full and careful
exhumation of an area a mile square or more. DNA sample every
delicate bone, separate Indian, White Man, or Mormon, and make
3 mass graves, one for each, to be topped with cross or no cross, left unmarked. We will otherwise waste time.

and historian, or just to rant, you're welcome to email me at
