3 unanswerable questions
At the second Lee trial, there were three unanswered and unanswerable questions.
It had to do with John D. Lee's superiors, if Gibbs is correct in the reading of the transcript. I believe that he would die and did die to preserve the lives of these
men. They were beloved to him. I think I had considerable material collected during the semester that my ex spent completing an incomplete. I spent it attending a class on the Mormon Novel and researching my ex's geneology . This was not only that I felt I owed this to my future children. No one knew when President Kimball would die. When he did, his successor would be Ezra Taft Benson [ETB]--a prominent member of the John Birch Society and George Wallace's American Independent Party. He was given to fascist rants in General Conference.
When I was 16, something called the Utah Free Press came to Cedar City and I bought a copy. I didn't know much about the evil art of propoganda, but it was so obvious in this paper that I got a good gander at how it was done. I then traced down the person selling the papers and confronted him. I had studied the Constitution in a California public school and I recognized a violation when I saw it. The purpose of this paper was to recruit Mormons into the far right. Knowing the style of [ETB], I suspected him of doing this.
My husband's grandmother was Eighty. She had raised 10 children in the church. She
intended to drop out when President Kimball died. When he did die there was a history of the church, called The Story of the Latterday Saints which was due for printing. The night before his ascendancy he ordered it canceled. I associate
his action with book-burning, but I may remember that he ordered any copies burned.
Deseret Books refused and ordered printing to continue. I can well imagine them working all night.
to be continued . . .
